Nova Scotia vs Ontario: RECAP
2017-07-09
Ontario squeaks out Round 1 win over host Nova Scotia, 17 - 16.
It is safe to say Game 1 did not go as expected for Team Ontario at the 2017 Football Canada Cup. Team Ontario Head Coach, Glen Mills; "Coming out it was clear our guys were not mentally prepared for the game. A lot of mistakes & dropped balls hurt us early in the game. I'm not sure if we just took Nova Scotia lightly or what. That was a fantastic Nova Scotia team that fought to the end."
Ontario would open up the scoring on a 1-Yard TD Run by Nathan Langley (#25 - Burlington, ON) at the 4:16 mark in the 1st.
From there, it was clear that the #6 Nova Scotia had no plans to roll over for the #3 seed Ontario. A game that remained a tight score almost all game, saw Nova Scotia that a 16 - 10 lead with 10:48 remaining in the 4th.
After swapping possesions, Ontario would put together a 5 play, 50 yard drive capped off with an 11-Yard TD pass from Conner Irwin-Lewis (#12 - Oakville, ON) to Jayden Thompson (#13 - Aurora, ON) making the score 17 - 16 with 2:59 remaining in the 4th.
From there, Ontario was able to hold on and will once again be competing in the medal round. Mills would go on to say; "I feel our players showed real character coming back. The crowd was going wild but our kids were able to hold there composure and get the job done. At the end of the day, a win is a win. We have moved on to our Semi-Final match-up vs Sask."
Ontario will meet Saskatchewan in the Semi-Finals Tuesday, July 11th, 2017. Kick-Off is scheduled for 4PM AT (3PM ET).
