Laurence Pontbriand looking to lead the Women movement for Football in Ontario!
Laurence Pontbriand is always jumping to new heights. As a high jumper in track and field to playing Rugby, to catching Touchdowns in Flag and Tackle Football Laurence will knock you over. As a member of Canada’s Women’s Tackle Football team, she has carried Canada’s Flag in 2017 where she was part of the Silver Medal Team and MVP. She is a remarkable person on and of the field.
Laurence is the first female Learning Facilitator for the Ontario Football Alliance and she joins a dedicated team of Learning Facilitators. She will be working with coaches in Ontario on the new Community Sport Novice Coaching Course U 14 touch/tackle/Flag. She understands that as Coach Developers we can continue to enhance the experiences of all Canadian Athletes through quality coaching. The newly mandated course by Football Canada was released Nov 28 2018.
Laurence who graduated as a Health and Physical Education Teacher has taken her game to the CFL where she is the Coordinator for Football Operations. One of Laurence’s goals is to help grow Women’s Football in Ontario and Canada. She would like to extend an invitation to all female coaches to attend the Women’s only Safe Contact Training Course on March 30th at the University of Guelph.
After the Safe Contact Course, the OFA in partnership with the CFL, Brock University and Football Canada’s Women’s National team Coach, Ryan Clutterbuck, welcome female athletes to come out to the University of Guelph and take part in a Women’s Combine and see “How do you stack up against a Canadian National Tackle Football Player through some combine events.
Laurence would personally like to welcome past teammates, rugby players, and former female football players and anyone interested in taking the challenge. She will be there personally facilitating within the event and encouraging all participants. You can sign up at the OFA website. We know that Laurence will be jumping to new heights in the coming future, will you?
Coach Clutterbuck of the Women’s National Team shared in the news, “Ontario Football Alliance is lucky to have “LOPO” as its newest Learning Facilitator. She is a remarkable athlete — a key contributor to the success of the Women’s National Team in 2017 — and a leader off the field as well. There is no greater ambassador for women’s football in Ontario than Laurence, and I’m so happy to hear she’ll be contributing in this new role”.
