FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 28th, 2014
Guelph, ON. Ian Smith, President of the Ontario Football Alliance, the governing body of minor football in Ontario, has announced that the Steel City Steelers are not sanctioned to participate in football in Ontario during the fall of 2014. The great game of football is predicated on an accepted list of rules, regulations, and expectations. All of these clearly outlined in the “White Book”. All members of the football community are expected to follow these guidelines. The OFA has their rules ad expectations clearly outlined in their constitution and policies. All member leagues and clubs are expected to follow the timelines and paperwork requirements including being sanctioned to play in any given season in Ontario.
Families who had enrolled their children with the Steelers organization have a plethora of other options to participate in fall football. The Hamilton area is serviced by a number of local minor football organizations including the Hamilton Football Association, the Brantford Bison’s, Burlington Minor Football, Cambridge Minor Football, Halton Minor Football, Port Dover Minor Football, the Niagara Generals and the Niagara Storm Football Club. The Hamilton Football Association has already engaged a number of area players who were previously registered with the Steel City Steelers organization.
Ian Smith, President of the Ontario Football Alliance said... “In order to be sanctioned, there are policies and processes to be followed. In April 2014 the Steelers fall sanctioning was denied, since then the sanctioning and appeals committees have not received any additional information that would change the April 2014 decision.”
The mandate of the Ontario Football Alliance is “to develop football in Ontario by providing programs to improve the game through participation and mandates developed by its membership”
