OPFL Game of the Week: Week 4
2017-06-08
Ottawa Sooners (3-0) vs Guelph Jr Gryphons (1-2)
The Ontario Football Alliance is pleased to announce this week's OPFL Varsity Game of the Week: Ottawa Sooners vs Guelph Jr Gryphons.
This Week's OFA OPFL Varsity Game of the Week see's the powerhouse Ottawa Sooners (3 - 0) travel to Guelph to take on the Guelph Jr Gryphons (1 - 2).
In the first 3 weeks, the Ottawa Sooners have defeated the Hamilton Varsity Tiger Cats (28 - 20), the Mississauga Warriors (22 - 7), and the Kingston Grenadiers (32 - 15). A big reason for the success of the Sooners goes out to Running Back Jean-Paul Cimankinda who has totalled 570 yards on only 51 carriers (11.2 Yards per Attempt) scoring 3 times. As well, strong defensive play from Defensive End Lake-Korte Moore and Linebacker Malik Yusuf look to keep the Sooners rolling!
After 3 weeks, the Guelph Jr Gryphons find themselves 1 - 2, not a position they probably saw being in after a Week 1, 53 - 16 win over the Durham Dolphins. But after back-to-back close games with the Hamilton Varsity Tiger Cats (31 - 26) & Niagara Spears (40 - 32), Guelph is already in a must win game. Look for the Jr Gryphons to lean on Quarterback Dakota Brown (33-66-644 | 6 TD's / 2 INT's) and Receivers Clark Barnes (8-294 | 3 TD's) & Tommy Nield (10-154 | 1 TD) if they want to come out on top in this one.
For Guelph to get the upset win, they must slow down that league leading Sooner run game, and put up points in bunches! Look for the Sooners to continue to pressure Brown (League Leading 18 Sacks) and slow down the Gryphon air-attack! Kickoff for this week's Game of the Week is 7:00PM this Saturday at Alumni Stadium, in Guelph, ON.
