FOOTBALL ONTARIO PRIORITIZES SAFE SPORT
Alexia Tam will be Joining the Board of Directors with Safe Sport Expertise - Safe Sport e-Learning Module to be Mandated for All Coaches, Volunteers and Executives Starting 2022
Hamilton, Ontario - Starting January 1, 2022 the FREE Safe Sport e-learning module will become mandated for all coaches and executives across the province.
To go along with this focus on safe sport, the organization has appointed Alexia Tam to join the Board of Directors. Alexia is the current Safe Sport Manager at Alpine Canada and is also someone with a lengthy career as both an athlete and a coach in football. She has demonstrated a commitment and passion for safe, inclusive, and healthy sport and the organization believes she can help play a pivotal role in the continued development of a safe and inclusive football environment across the province.
When asked her thoughts on the appointment to the Board, Alexia said, “I am very excited to join the Football Ontario Board of Directors! As a long-time athlete and now coach I am looking forward to working with the amazing football community in Ontario to continue to develop our successful programs for both men and women, and boys and girls in our sport!”
Alexia previously served as a board member and active athlete for the University of Toronto’s Women’s Flag Football Team as well as coached the Metro Toronto Wildcats. Given her experience as an athlete, a coach, and her professional training as a Safe Sport expert, Football Ontario believes that she is the perfect addition to the Board of Directors.
“Football Ontario is focused on creating a safe and inclusive atmosphere for all participants. The addition of Alexia Tam to our Board as a safe sport expert and having a highly regarded and free e-learning to educate our community is a great opportunity to strengthen our commitment to safe sport.” says Football Ontario Executive Director Aaron Geisler.
Safe and inclusive sport environments help to make sport rewarding and enriching for all. By having coaches and executives complete the Safe Sport training it will provide them with the knowledge and skills to create a healthy environment by recognizing, addressing and preventing maltreatment in sport.
Upon completion of the Safe Sport e-Learning module coaches and executives will be able to:
-
Understand that everyone has a role to play in keeping sport safe, how the misuse of power leads to maltreatment, and the principles of the Universal Code of Conduct
-
Understand the various types of maltreatment, the conditions that enable them, and how to recognize signs that they may be happening
-
Know what to do if you suspect maltreatment and how you can create a culture that protects all participants.
