LTAD: Competition Review - pt. 6
2019-12-11
The Ontario Football Alliance is pleased to share Part 6 of the 2016 Competition Review Survey that took place from Sept. 19 - Oct. 14, 2019.
BACKGROUND
From September 19th - October 14th, the Ontario Football Alliance opened a survey to the football community to share their thoughts on the 2016 Football Canada: Competition Review.
WHO RECEIVED THE SURVEY?
The Ontario Football Alliance shared the survey by email with all registered participants of the OFA. As well, the survey was shared on social media in an attempt to capture anyone in the football community that did not receive the email.
WHY?
With the upcoming changes in 2022, concerns were raised by some member clubs/leagues, from these concerns the Ontario Football Alliance identified 5 specific strategies. The Ontario Football Alliance in an effort to advocate on behalf of their members will share the results with Football Canada.
SCHEDULE

QUESTION 8:
Each team must have a minimum number of players on their roster to start a season and to play a game. Mandate: 2022
Some comments that Agree with Question 4:
"Minimums should be set to assist in lowering risk of player fatigue and injury. Also, if players are being required to play multiple positions due to small rosters, learning specific skills is hindered."
"I agree that there should be a minimum number of athletes on the roster to play a game but I think the "minimum" numbers outlined are too low."
"Absolutely. Having subs and more lines available would greatly increase player safety and player development. Injuries tend to occur when players are run down toward the end of a game."
Some comments that Neither Agree nor Disagree with Question 4:
"I do agree there should be a requirement but the actual requirement is too many"
Some comments that Disagree with Question 4:
"Many of the clubs have noted The roster size at the grassroots level especially for 12 on 12 should 20 this Provides the proper balance and combines enough For accounting for depth any potential injuries but still allowing adequate time for skill development and play. Also to start a season should mirror what starting a game should be and that is 20 players."
"You are forcing some clubs to close programs for the kids. Min Numbers are set to high. There is some atheletes able to play both offense and defense when short just 1 or 2 short players."
"There should be no maximum, players who do not play but are a valued member of a practice squad for a good team with good coaches that understand how to properly use a practice squad will receive significantly better development than players who get playing time on a lower level team against lower level competition with lower level coaching."

QUESTION 8:
Each team must have a minimum number of players on their roster to start a season and to play a game. Mandate: 2022
Mandating a team's roster size at the start of a season with a minimum number of players makes sure that teams have enough players to continue during a season should in-season injuries occur.
The recommended maximum to begin thinking of alternative options is a threshild at which having too many players restricts the ability for all players to get playing time of adequate development opportunities.
